4-H Afterschool Activities
STEM (Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology)
STEM activities play a significant role in the engagement of youth into the scientific ream of discovery and wonder. Reaching out to youth with age appropriate, relevant and enjoyable STEM activities is critical in sparking a lifelong interest in science. STEM in after school activities provides many youth with the opportunity to experiment with different variables, critically think through difficulties, and be able to measure their own progress.
The KidWind Project
The KidWind Project kit allows youth to construct a windmill that generates electricity. This kit also includes a Wind Farm that allows youth to use the energy the windmill generates to conduct simple experiments. Through this process youth experience a “hands on” approach to energy production and use, experiences like these are fundamental for a generation who will be faced with an ever-changing energy future.
