Older Youth Opportunities

4-H is offered to youth in grades K-13, starting with the Cloverbuds K-2.  Jackson County 4-H has been working with its older youth members to provide more opportunities for them to showcase their leadership skills.  Check out the information below to get involved!

 I WANT TO KNOW! STEM CAMP MAY 5-6, 2017

The Wisconsin 4-H Youth Development STEM I Want to Know! Camp (IW2K! STEM Camp) will be held again this year at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center in Wisconsin Dells, WI. This overnight camp, open to 6th- 8th grade 4-H members and non-4-H’ers, will take place on Friday and Saturday May 5-6. Youth will get the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) during hands on sessions.

Campers will arrive on Friday at 5:30 p.m. for check in and then will get to participate in teambuilding group activities and a large group session before heading to bed. During the day on Saturday, campers will participate in sessions that include hands on STEM activities taught by UW faculty and volunteers from around the state. Previous year sessions included topics such as food science, DNA, electricity, herpetology and robotics! After an inspiring day of learning, camp ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Registration for this camp is limited and fills up fast, so make sure to register as soon as possible! The Registration deadline is April 14, 2017. The cost for the IW2K! Stem Camp is $70, which includes meals, lodging and a t-shirt. Transportation to and from camp are to be arranged by the youth’s family. Upham Woods 2017 Summer Programs: open to all counties

Once again we will be featuring two open enrollment sessions for summer camp at Upham, an outpost river trip, and a new family camp.

How will you spend your summer at Upham?

Upham Woods will be providing a variety of camp programming this summer open to participants state wide.  Programs are available to 4-H and non 4-H youth and adults.  Whether this is the first time or part of a long tradition make this summer a chance for an amazing Upham Woods camp experience.   For details on all of our 2017 Summer programs go to:  http://fyi.uwex.edu/uphamwoods/programs/

Upham Woods Summer Camp Session 1:  June 10-13, 2017

Campers learn about the natural world, themselves and each other in our traditional summer camp program.  Camp activities include hiking, canoeing, archery, swimming, our low element challenge course, and so much more.  The traditions of summer camp and unique qualities of Upham Woods combine for an unforgettable experiences. 

  • Cost:  $180 /camper
  • Camp is open to youth currently in 3rd-6thgrade
  • Register in 4-H online
  • Adult volunteers needed! No charge for Adult volunteers
  • Youth Counselors needed! Ages 14+, $30 counselor fee to participate
    • Counselors must attend Counselor Training at Upham Woods, April 21-23 or another 4-H Camp Counselor training

Upham Woods Family Camp:  July 1-3, 2017

Join us for 3 fun filled days of family friendly camp on the Upper Dells. Hiking, Swimming, Archery, Smores and more.  Stay in our rustic cabins or more modern dormitory.  Adults can relive summer camp or go to camp for the first time.  Youth get a taste of summer camp with the comfort of family.  A nostalgic experience for campers of all ages.  Come as a family or organize a larger group.

 Upham Woods Summer Camp Session 2- “Island Explorers”:  August 5-8, 2017

Participate in our themed summer camp for 2017:  Island Explores.  Stay in cabins on site at Upham Woods and spend the days exploring Blackhawk island, a 200 acre island in the Wisconsin River.  Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities. Spend extended time on Blackhawk island,  hike a variety of trails, canoe along the shore and stop along the way.  A unique experience for first time or returning Upham campers.

Outpost River Trip

Join us on a trip on the beautiful Namekagon River, in the St. Croix River National Scenic Riverway.  Canoe on a northern section of the Namekagon River. Outpost provides opportunities for lifetime friendships and memories.  Must be between the ages of 14-18.
